What should I expect during the ID check for the OSCE exam?
1) How do I take an appointment for the ID check?
- Every effort should be taken to ensure you are fully prepared for your ID check on your OSCE day. Your ID check is automatically scheduled for the day of your 1st attempt OSCE. (Monday- Friday)
- Please ensure that you have submitted your application on your NMC online account, paid the £153 registration fee and take all your original documents to your ID check. Photocopies will not be accepted.
- If your ID Check cannot be conducted on the day of your OSCE, a further in-person appointment for your ID check will be required at the test centre where you sat your OSCE. You will be provided an information sheet with details on how to arrange on the day of your OSCE.
- Failure to complete your ID check on the day will result in a delay in your PIN being issued.
- The NMC aim to respond to emails within 10 working days, emails are responded to in strict order of receipt.
2) Is ID check possible on weekends?
No. The NMC do not conduct ID checks on a weekend or Bank Holidays.
Should your 1st attempt OSCE be scheduled on a weekend, you will be asked to leave your ID documents securely with test centre staff (you will be given back your passport on the day) for the NMC to process in the following week. Your documents with be returned to you via Royal Mail tracked delivery service.
Should your resit be scheduled on a weekend, you are NOT able to leave documents. You will need to email NMC to book a further in-person appointment to return to the test centre on a different date.
3) Can we do the ID check at any centre other than where we did the exam?
No. All candidates who require a further in-person ID check MUST return to the test centre where you sat your OSCE..
Additional appointments must be booked and confirmed by the NMC, walk-ins will not be seen by the NMC, and candidates will be turned away and advised to follow the correct process; average wait time for an appointment is 8-10 weeks.
Appointments are allocated on a strict first come first served basis. You will not be given a sooner date based on your application status.
4) Do candidates have to take separate appointment to do Id check on resit day?
- An appointment is always required. The ID appointment is a separate booking with the NMC and does not relate to any bookings you may have for an OSCE resit.
- Whilst the NMC will try to offer an appointment on the day of your resit, there is no guarantee of availability. You will be offered the next available appointment at the test centre where you sat your OSCE.
- ID checks will not be conducted without an appointment.
- Please email ID.checks@nmc-uk.org for all ID related queries and requests for additional appointments, include your PRN in the email.
- The NMC aim to respond to emails within 10 working days, emails are responded to in strict order of receipt.
- Please do not send multiple emails or send ID related emails to other NMC email addresses as it may impact response time and can lead to confusion.
5) How many attempts for CBT & OSCE ?
The CBT and OSCE exams can be attempted only 3 times, and if they fail in all these attempts, they need to restart the NMC application again after 6 months, do all the NMC process from the beginning and sit for the CBT or OSCE after they receive the invitation from NMC.
6) How many days it will take to get PIN ?
After CBT, OSCE and ID check the NMC takes about a month to assess their application and if everything is okay, they start the process to give the PIN.
7) How long is the validity for CBT and OSCE?
The CBT and OSCE are both valid for 2 years each but if both of them are passed then together they are valid for 5 years
