Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Mentor Merlin UK Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in line with UK Government targets.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline Year: 2023/24

Scope 1 (Direct emissions)

• Fuel use (company vehicles, gas heating): 6 tCO2e

Scope 2 (Indirect energy – purchased electricity)

• Office and training centre electricity: 14 tCO2e

Scope 3 (Selected categories – business travel, commuting, waste, IT equipment, water, purchased goods/services)

• Business travel and commuting: 20 tCO2e
• Waste and water: 2 tCO2e
• IT equipment and supplies: 5 tCO2e
  Total Scope 3: 27 tCO2e

Total Baseline Emissions (2023/24): 47 tCO2e

Current Emissions Reporting (2024/25)

• Scope 1: 5 tCO2e (reduction due to fewer company vehicle trips).
• Scope 2: 13 tCO2e (slight improvement with efficient lighting).
• Scope 3: 25 tCO2e (remote training reduced travel, but IT usage increased).

Total Current Emissions (2024/25): 43 tCO2e

Emissions Reduction Targets

Mentor Merlin UK Ltd aims to reduce emissions by:

• 20% by 2030 (to ~34 tCO2e).
• 50% by 2040 (to ~17 tCO2e).
• Net Zero by 2050.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Current and planned measures include:

• Digital-first delivery: Expanding online OSCE training via Oportal to reduce travel.
• Green energy: Moving offices and training centres to renewable electricity contracts.
• Office efficiency: Upgrading to LED lighting and energy-efficient heating/cooling.
• Low-carbon travel: Encouraging remote meetings, public transport, and car sharing.
• Paperless training: Transitioning from printed manuals to digital resources.
• Supplier engagement: Preference for environmentally responsible suppliers.
